How do I manually install the Click to Convert virtual-printer?

Mike Stokes July 25, 2009

Here are some manual steps to install the Click to Convert virtual-printer on Windows XP, Windows Vista or later.

NOTE: You do not normally need to do this as Click to Convert will generally always install the virtual-printer correctly as long as you are logged in as an Administrator.

1. Log on as Administrator.

2. Download the XPDriver.zip (for Windows XP and later) file from the following link:
http://www.clicktoconvert.com/download/beta/xpdriver.zip

3. Extract the 2 files from the XPDriver.zip and save them to the XPDriver folder under where you installed Click to Convert. E.g. C:\Program Files\ClicktoConvert\XPDriver\

4. Open the Windows Printers folder.

5. Click the Add Printer button.

6. Go through the Add Printer Wizard and select LPT1 as the port.

7. When prompted for the printer type, click “Have Disk”, then select the Click to Convert XPDriver folder and the htmlprnt.inf file.

8. If prompted at all for additional files, select the XPDriver folder again.

9. Complete the Wizard and the printer should be added.

10. Stop the Print Spooler service (from the Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services application).

11. Open the Click to Convert installation folder.

12. Double click the install.exe file there and wait for it to finish.

13. Re-start the Print Spooler service.

i got all the way to step 8 before i got this error message:

"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."

I have Windows 7 professional 64-bit. I just can't get click to convert to be recognized as a printer device.

I am having the same issue, Windows 7 64-bit., using the 64-bit version of the software. Cannot get the virtual printer installed. Manually trying to install the print driver produces a "Printer driver was not install. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000002).  I have submitted an email and a trouble ticket through their help desk 10 days ago and have yet to see a response.
