What are embedded fonts in PDFs?

Mike Stokes Jul 25, 2009

Embedded fonts are simply fonts that are saved from your documents inside the PDF files - so that users of other computers can view your PDF files and they will look identical to the original file.

With most documents, there is no need to embed fonts within the PDF files because most documents use standard fonts that are available on most users computers.

You only need to embed fonts in your PDF files if your documents use fonts that are not going to be available on the viewers computers.

Luckily, Click to Convert allows you to easily select how you want to treat embedded fonts.

Embedded fonts add a lot of size to your PDF files, so if you want to reduce the file size, simply turn off the embedding of fonts.
